Our Values
Hōʻihi
Respect
Respect means we give “value” to people, places and principles. We honor ‘ike kūpuna (the wisdom of our ancestors) and always mālama our ‘āina (care for our land). We listen (ho’olohe) more than we talk and give generously with no expectation of return (kahiau), while always remaining humble (ha’aha’a)
Koʻu Kuleana
Personal Responsibility
Our sense of responsibility is generational and passed down from our ancestors. We understand the fragile balance of our environment and the importance of pono in our everyday interaction with others. We perceive our koʻu kuleana be to respectful (hoaʻihi) and patient (hoʻomanawanui) with everyone we come into contact with.
Kupu Mau
Lifetime Learning
Kupu Mau means we are always growing, always learning. This sense of curiosity drove our ancestors into double-hulled canoes that traveled thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean to find the home we know as Hawaiʻi. Kupu Mau means we are always makaʻala (alert and observant) because creativity comes from being observant. Great leaders are always lifetime learners.
Laulima
Work Cooperatively
Working cooperatively, Native Hawaiians became one of the most sustainable cultures on Earth. This understanding of what can be accomplished when people work together is at the core of how we work with customers, contractors, consultants, co-workers, and leadership. We value consensus because of our belief that we are all connected (pilina) and working closely together for our mutual benefit is part of our daily status quo.
